Common Questions
Does YanMore Grind require an account?
No. The current app works locally for core recommendation, logging, sharing, and export flows.
Does the app need location permission?
No. The current app does not request location permission. Humidity, when needed for recommendation context, is entered manually.
What should I do if a recommendation feels wrong?
Check whether the brew record contains contradictory signals such as fast flow with bitterness, slow flow with sourness, channeling, uneven puck preparation, unusual water temperature, stale beans, or a grinder setting near the physical end stop. Save the next brew with tasting feedback so the model can learn from your actual grinder and method.
How are stepped and stepless grinders handled?
Stepped grinders receive executable click-based recommendations. Stepless grinders preserve continuous dial semantics. Dual-mode grinders can be recorded as either stepped or stepless so the recommendation, share output, and backup export keep the correct hardware semantics.
How do espresso basket profiles work?
Espresso basket profiles affect only espresso recommendations and records. They describe basket resistance, geometry, dose range, and whether the basket is pressurized; YanMore Grind does not maintain a brand/model basket database.
How do I record a drink and sleep feedback?
Open Coffee diary to calculate an ingredient estimate or record a drink directly. In version 2.0, a brew record is not counted as personal intake until you add it to the diary. Starting in version 2.1, saving a new brew automatically adds an estimated intake entry. Undo that addition or delete the diary entry when the cup is for someone else; the brew record remains. Selecting a historical brew in the Pro calculator only calculates its ingredients and does not add intake unless you save it. Select a calendar day to review drinks and optionally record that night's sleep. You can turn off sleep association and delete sleep feedback.
How precise are caffeine and cafestol estimates?
Version 2.0 provides caffeine references for a limited set of matching research recipes and shows automatic cafestol estimates as unavailable. Starting in version 2.1, the Pro calculator gives rough caffeine and cafestol values for valid supported recipes, using coffee dose, collected brew liquid, bean type, roast and filtration inputs. Results include ranges and explicit assumptions where inputs are missing. Added water or milk dilutes concentration but does not add coffee-derived ingredients. These are model estimates, not laboratory measurements; actual amounts may differ substantially. The app does not provide a personal safe dose or diagnose sleep problems.
How does milk inventory work in version 2.1?
Track milk products, batches and cartons with different bottle counts and volumes. Bottles in a batch share production and expiry details, while each opened bottle has its own opening time, remaining stock and use history. Record use, losses or stock corrections separately. Optional local reminders use packaging guidance when provided, otherwise a personal deadline or a clearly identified conservative default. Reminders do not certify that milk is safe to drink; follow the packaging and actual storage conditions.
What does marking beans finished do in version 2.1?
Finished beans move to a separate group and are excluded from current bean selection. Their profiles, permanent identities and brew history remain. Reactivate a bean to use it again. This is not permanent deletion.
Can I back up my data?
Yes. Free includes local export, including complete backup export. Pro adds supported backup import and restoration. Version 2.1 backups also include milk inventory and history. Sharing and export are user-initiated. Restoring an Apple purchase restores eligible Pro access, not coffee records; recovering records requires a data backup.
Can I import shared recipes?
Pro can import shared recipe payloads as reference recipes. Imported source names and notes are retained separately from local equipment identities. Importing does not make a recipe a measured brew or establish matching physical hardware. Confirm your equipment and target recipe, then record the actual result of your next brew.
Who handles Pro payments and subscriptions?
Apple App Store handles purchases and subscription billing. The app displays prices provided by StoreKit; if products cannot be loaded, retry when a connection is available rather than relying on a placeholder price. YanMore Grind does not charge your card or issue refunds itself.
How do I restore a purchase or manage a subscription?
Open the Pro page and choose Restore Purchases to ask Apple to refresh eligible purchases for your Apple Account. Manage Subscription opens Apple's subscription management interface. A pending purchase does not unlock Pro until Apple reports an eligible completed transaction. Restoring purchases does not restore coffee records; use a saved data backup for that.
What happens when Pro access ends?
Your saved coffee data is retained. Free limits apply again, and advanced data can remain available as read-only. Free and Pro use the same core recommendation logic for the same available inputs; Pro adds supported inputs and data tools, not a secretly more accurate base algorithm.
Is a basket's nominal dose range mandatory?
A manufacturer's nominal dose range is a reference, not a measurement of your puck fit. A modest departure alone does not prove channeling or preparation failure. Use the actual dose in your record and keep different basket and recipe contexts separate. Confirm observed preparation problems before relying on a grind adjustment.
Troubleshooting
- If recommendations are low-confidence, add a few recent brew records for the same grinder, bean, and brew method.
- If taste feedback is contradictory, inspect puck prep, filter seating, water temperature, dose, yield, flow, and bean freshness.
- For espresso, confirm the selected basket profile and dose range before relying on a strong grind change.
- If a grinder CSV import fails, check that the file came from YanMore Grind or follows the expected structured grinder export format.
- If humidity context is useful, enter it manually; recommendations do not depend on device location.
